THE penultimate event in the 2014/15 NSW Race schedule was held in the nation’s capital at the beautiful Federal Golf Club. A good field of golfers enjoyed what was a pleasant day with plenty of Sydney-based golfers making the trip down to enjoy the course.
There were several golfers on the day that enjoyed the layout, with a total of eight players breaking handicap.
Decided on a count back, taking out the overall win on the day with a score of 40 points was Race Series regular Terry Stevens. Terry now qualifies free for the State Final in March at Bonnie Doon GC and also picks up a brand new Cobra Puma Stand Bag and a Race Series winner's medal for his efforts.
In second place and also on 40 points was Cooma resident Martin Stockl who was the day’s B-grade winner.
Third overall and A-grade winner was Chris Holmes with 39 points, which was also decided on a countback. A great effort playing off a handicap of 1 on the day.
Another highlight of the day came from Canberra local and all-time Race Series low marker Joshua Reid, playing off +4, who managed two eagles on the day - on the par five 1st and 13th holes.

The downhill par-three 16th hosted the Golf Buddy Nearest-To-Pin challenge and it was another of the Holmes family, this time Chris’s father Michael, who took home the brand new Golf Buddy VS4 GPS device for his approach to 462cm.
In the Cobra Puma Go Looong Challenge on the par five 17th, it was Paul Godber who took out his second long drive of the series with a drive of 284m. In the ladies division at was Dora Lowndes' drive of 160m that was good enough for the win.
With just one round remaining, it is last year’s Order of Merit winner Terry Stevens looking to go back to back as he now leads following his Federal win. Solid results from several other players near the top of the leader board mean it is still possible for up to a dozen players to win if results go their way at the final event.
There is certainly a lot to play for at Monash Country Club where we will crown our 2014/15 NSW Order of Merit Champion. To view the full NSW Order of Merit standings click here.
The sixth and final qualifying event in NSW will be held at Monash CC on the 23rd February 2015. The course has continued undergoing its renovations and there will be several new holes in play again this year which should add more interest to the event. Click here to book.
