The Race Series' Caddie Challenge Month promotion in November/December has proved a huge success with 10 very happy golfers now eagerly awaiting delivery of some fabulous prizes.
Caddie Challenge Month was open to both Race Series competitors and non-Race Series golfers with two matching sets of prizes on offer for each group.
Those who played the Race Series simply had to sign up for two Caddie Challenges for the month while those not playing the Race Series had to play four Caddie Challenges. And fittingly it was one of the Race Series' most loyal competitors who claimed one of the major prizes.
Tony Davis, from Melbourne, has been a stalwart of the Race Series since it's inception in 2009 and is now the proud owner of a brand new Golf Buddy Laser Range Finder thanks to Caddie Challenge Month.
“I finally won something in the Race Series,” Davis said with a laugh when contacted by Golf Link to tell him about his prize.
“Myself and my brother-in-law have been playing the Race events since the very first year and we just love it and try to play as many as we can.
“At first we thought it was a great way to see some really nice courses, and that's true, but it's become more than that as well.
“We've met a bunch of golfers that we've become friends with and we stay in touch and even play together on trips away sometimes.”
Davis (pictured) says the addition of the Caddie Challenge element to the event had only enhanced its appeal.
“I wasn't sure if I would like it at first but having an incentive to play to your handicap or better every time you tee up has been surprisingly helpful to my scoring and enjoyment of the game,” he said.
“The trick is to make the Challenge then immediately try to forget you've done it while still being aware what you need to do to win.
“It's a mental game, just like the rest of golf, and I've been enjoying that aspect of it a lot.”
Davis and Ian Jordan of Gunnedah Golf Club in NSW each won the Golf Buddy Range Finder but the two top prizes went to Kiron Barnden of Cape Schanck in Victoria and Beng Lee of Ryde Parramatta GC in NSW.
Both have won a Stay and Play package at the magnificent Bonville Resort, host course of the Race Series Final in May.
For Barnden the prize couldn't be more perfect with three children under five and limited time for much outside parenting, golf included.
“It'll be fantastic for me and my wife to get away to Bonville, I've heard nothing but great things about it,” he said.
“We're both looking forward to a bit of a break. She's even thinking about packing the clubs as she hardly gets to play these days so that would be great for both of us.”
Third place prize getters, who are receiving a US Masters Memorabilia pack, are Eddie Scofield of Queanbeyan GC in NSW and Scott Stibbard of Riverside Oaks GC in Sydney.
In fourth place, Michael Bruce and Nick Kazich will each be delighted with a dozen bottles of wine courtesy of the Golf Link Wine Club, while Roy Gamma and Geoff Latham will have a full year to enjoy their subscriptions to GOLF Magazine.
Golf Link would like to thank all of ours sponsors and partners in the Race Series who supplied prizes for Caddie Challenge Month and we feel sure all our winners will be overjoyed with their winnings.
