THE second leg of the Tasmanian portion of the 2014/15 Race to Bonville has officially ended.
Three national finalists have now joined Team Tasmania along with the two other members, Gary Jones and Peter Sanger, who qualified in the Tasmania GC event last December.
The Country Club of Tasmania turned on a mild day after early morning showers. The course was in magnificent condition, and coupled with perfect weather, provided a great scoring opportunity for the golfers on the day.
Scoring for the day was very bunched with five players tying for the best score of the day at 35 points. After a five-way tie, Scott Richards of Prospect Vale GC was the winner and earned himself a returning trip to Bonville Golf Resort for the National Final.
Joining Scott was another Prospect Vale GC member Dean Slater at 35 pts on a count back. This will be Dean’s first year at the National Final. Scott and Dean will join Gary Jones, Peter Sanger and Julia Goss on Team Tasmania.
Julia’s score of 37 pts at Tasmania GC was enough to win the women’s division this year.
Other fine performances on the day were the three others on 35 pts. These were Gary McLennan of Exter GC, Gary Rowbottom and David Bliss of Claremont GC. The count back was not kind to those three.

Scott Richards was also the winner of the Golf Buddy Nearest To Pin on the par three 17th hole. His approach to 432cm was the best of the day to a tight hole location. The day’s other nearest to pin winner was James Atkinson who was closest on the par three 8th hole at 336cm.
