ADELAIDE turned on a hot summer’s day for what was the final qualifying event of the 2014/15 SA Race Series, held at The Grange – East Course.
As the host of last year’s South Australian State Final, it was a fitting way to round out this year’s qualifying series at The Grange – East Course and once again the course was in great condition.
In his first appearance in the Race Series, it was Garth Newton who blitzed the field with his score of 41 points taking overall honours on the day. Garth was followed by Craig McKnight who came in second overall and was the A-grade winner with his score of 37 points. The day’s B-grade winner had to be determined by count back with Bill Anderson edging out David McMahon on scores of 36 points.
Full results for the day can be found by clicking here.
The Cobra Puma Go Looong Challenge saw a familiar face win again with Hugh Daw claiming his third long drive of the season. Hugh’s drive of 245m on the 8th was not his longest of the season but it was enough to claim victory and get his name up in lights for the third time on the Cobra Puma Go Looong Leaderboard. The ladies' winner on the day was Heather Anderson for her drive of 182 metres.
The fourth instalment of the Golf Buddy Nearest The Pin was held on the par three 15th hole and the day’s winner was Dean Virgo for his approach to 190cm. Dean takes home the new VS4 GPS device for his efforts. Click here to see the full Golf Buddy NTP Challenge National Leaderboard.
The final item of business to round out the qualifying series is to announce and crown the South Australian Order of Merit Champion and the first player through to the National Final as part of Team SA.
This year’s Order of Merit was a very close affair and in the end the two leading players had to be split by count back. As per the rules of the Race Series, the count back winner is determined by the player who finished higher at the last event, and that player is Roy Galbraith. Congratulations to Roy for being the first player to win his way onto Team SA.
This will be Roy’s second trip to the Race Series National Final after he qualified for Team SA in the 2012/13 Race to The Sands Torquay. Click here to see the full and final Order or Merit standings.
All of the day’s photos can be found on the Golf Link Facebook page.
