WHILE there are any number of weird and wonderful gadgets to be found on the driving range at professional tournaments, simple alignment sticks are among the less interesting.
The sticks serve all sorts of purposes, allowing players to check everything from the alignment of their feet to the plane of their swing.
It was the latter which Spaniard Alvaro Quiros was working on when things went horribly wrong at the Portugal Masters last week.
PLAYER PROFILE EMILIANO GRILLO:
Six times a European Tour winner Quiros, one of the longest hitters in world golf, gets too far inside with this 3-wood and the results are disastrous.
Not only does the humble alignment stick meet its end, but Quiros’ 3-wood also ends up in two pieces.
Luckily for Quiros the Tour van was on hand to build him a new club but he’ll need more than that to deal with the issue with his swing.
Enduring a horror season, Quiros has just one top 10 from 23 starts and has missed 14 cuts on his 2016 resume.
With stats like that there’s likely a lot more range time in Quiros’ future though we’re sure he’ll be more careful in future.
